Do you want your students to become experts in solving TWO step equations?   Are you a student who wants to LEARN HOW TO SOLVE TWO STEP EQUATIONS? I have been teaching for over a decade, and I am especially noticing that now because of the pandemic of covid, students have fallen behind on a lot of basic math skills.  Therefore, I decided to use a graphic organizer to help my students learn how to solve TWO STEP equations.  The goal is to have students practice with the steps and visuals. After practicing with the supports, hopefully, the students will understand the pattern and know what to do, or the students will be able to draw the flowchart themselves to help them solve the equations when there are no visuals. CONCLUSION: When I taught solving equations, some of my students needed extra supports. Therefore, I created worksheets that I used which were unique because they provided visuals and supports which my students needed. Click on the links here to check out the wo...

Do you want your students to become experts in solving one step equations?  I have been teaching for over a decade, and I am especially noticing that now because of the pandemic of covid, students have fallen behind on a lot of basic math skills.  Therefore, I decided to teach the topic of solving one step equations as follows: Day 1: I taught how to solve one step addition and subtraction equations. Day 2: I taught how to solve one step multiplication equations. The only trouble that I saw students having in this lesson is remembering that a number attached to the variable such as 4x means to MULTIPLY.  So, I took out some time to review that expressions such as 7y or 9m etc. mean to multiply.  You may have to spend some time on this as it may be difficult for some students to get used to not seeing the multiplication symbol. Day 3: I taught how to solve one step division equations.  It took time for some students to get used to the fraction bar which means t...

Want to succeed? Learn basic skills in algebra with visuals and step by step guides! Include this in your math lessons!

ARE YOUR STUDENTS STRUGGLING TO LEARN BASIC SKILLS IN ALGEBRA?  In middle school when students learn about coefficients, variables, and constants and need to learn how to combine like terms, they might not even understand what like terms are. I have been teaching for over a decade using common core standards. Especially with the pandemic causing my students to miss learning, I have noticed that my students are missing the required prerequisites needed. I am required to teach on grade level, yet my students need to feel confident in my math classes and need to master the skills. I have decided to break up the middle school algebra into simple lessons and build on them each day. DAY 1: First, I went over coefficients, variables, and constants. I then needed to teach combining like terms, but I knew that this skill would be overwhelming and difficult for my students if they did not know how to identify the like terms FIRST.  DAY 2: So, I spent a lesson reviewing how to ide...

Teachers & homeschooling guardians! Make Dividing Fractions Easy for your students with these!

Teachers & homeschooling guardians!      Make Dividing Fractions Easy for your students with these!     Many students stress out when they see fractions. This is why it is extremely important for teachers and homeschooling guardians to ensure that your students are confident and master the skills when dividing fractions.  PREREQUISITES: Before teaching "division of fractions", make sure your students have mastered how to multiply fractions because when students divide fractions, they will be turning the problem into a "multiplication of fractions" problem(with some more steps). Students also need to know how to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions because before starting the division, they will need to make sure the mixed numbers are converted.  How to convert improper fractions back into mixed numbers is important to know so that when the answer is an improper fraction, they will know how to convert to a mixed number. S...
